Utilisation per driver · Uber & Bolt
Uber driver earnings per hour: the fleet owner's maths
What a driver earns for your fleet per hour is his revenue divided by his online hours, Uber and Bolt combined. Two more numbers complete the picture: the share of online time with a passenger and his real hourly pay, which must never fall below Germany's minimum wage of €13.90 gross, or €14.60 from 1 January 2027 (§ 1 MiLoV5).
Fahrerauslastung (German for "driver utilisation") shows all three for every driver and shift, straight from your Uber Fleet and Bolt Fleet accounts. You see who sits idle when, which shifts don't pay for themselves, and where pay slips under the limit.

Which three numbers show what a driver really brings in?
Weekly revenue on its own says little. A driver with 60 online hours almost always earns more than one with 35, but not necessarily more per hour. These three metrics make drivers and shifts comparable.
- Revenue per online hour
- is a driver's trip revenue divided by the time he was online in the Uber or Bolt app.revenue ÷ online hours
- Utilisation
- is the share of online time with a passenger in the car. The rest is idle time: waiting, pick-up runs, returning to base.hours w/ passenger ÷ online hours
- Real hourly pay
- is gross pay divided by recorded working hours. It must reach at least the statutory minimum wage.gross pay ÷ hours worked
Revenue per online hour
How much does an Uber driver make per hour? The maths per driver
From the fleet's side, the answer is: as much revenue as his online hours bring in. In the example fleet below, the strongest and weakest drivers are €14 per hour apart with almost the same online time.
| Driver | Online h | With passenger | Utilisation | Revenue | Revenue/online h |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| F-03 | 140 | 98 | 70 % | €3,920 | €28.00 |
| F-01 | 168 | 109 | 65 % | €4,368 | €26.00 |
| F-05 | 120 | 66 | 55 % | €2,640 | €22.00 |
| F-02 | 172 | 86 | 50 % | €3,268 | €19.00 |
| F-04 | 176 | 62 | 35 % | €2,464 | €14.00 |
Example view with fictional drivers and figures. Bands in the example: green from €24, amber €18–24, red under €18. You set your own thresholds. Driver revenue is earned in euros in Germany, so the example stays in euros.
In short: F-01 has the highest monthly revenue, but F-03 earns the most per hour. F-04 is online the longest and still carries the fewest passengers. His problem isn't effort, it's the hours he drives.
What's left
Uber driver earnings after commission and wages: what one hour leaves you
Whether an online hour pays off only shows when you set it against the wage cost of that same hour. If revenue after platform commission is below the minimum wage, you lose money on every such hour, before the car, insurance and fuel are paid.
| Revenue per online hour | €28.00 |
|---|---|
| Platform commission, example rate 25 % | −€7.00 |
| Wage per hour, at least minimum wage | −€13.90 |
| Left for car and profit | €7.10 |
| Revenue per online hour | €14.00 |
|---|---|
| Platform commission, example rate 25 % | −€3.50 |
| Wage per hour, at least minimum wage | −€13.90 |
| Left for car and profit | −€3.40 |
Example with fictional values. The 25 % commission is an assumed example rate, not a figure from Uber or Bolt. Employer social-security contributions are not included. Minimum wage: § 1 MiLoV5.
Make idle time visible
How much idle time does each driver have? Utilisation by weekday and hour
The heatmap above shows it for one driver: early mornings and Saturday night the car is almost always occupied, between 10 am and 2 pm it mostly waits. Across 20 to 50 drivers this becomes a pattern your dispatcher can plan shifts around.
Cut idle time in 4 steps
Find the red hours
Per driver and weekday, mark the hours in which less than 40 % of online time is spent with a passenger.
Compare with the fleet
If an hour is weak for every driver, demand is missing. If it's weak for one driver only, look at his location or driving pattern.
Move shifts
Put shift starts and breaks into weak hours and staff the strong hours better. Breaks are mandatory: 30 minutes for more than six hours, 45 minutes for more than nine (§ 4 ArbZG, Working Hours Act).
Measure again after four weeks
Compare revenue per online hour before and after, per driver. Undo what doesn't work.
Limits for shift planning: at most 8 hours per working day, up to 10 hours if the average over six calendar months or 24 weeks stays at 8 hours (§ 3 ArbZG), and at least 11 hours of rest between shifts, which transport companies may shorten by up to one hour if it is offset (§ 5 ArbZG).
Minimum-wage check
Is every driver above the €13.90 minimum wage?
Check it every month: gross pay divided by recorded working hours. With fixed monthly pay and long hours, the figure drops below the limit quickly. In 66 days it rises to €14.60.
| Gross pay | €2,400.00 |
|---|---|
| Recorded working time | 176 h |
| Real hourly pay | €13.64 |
| Minimum wage 2026 | €13.90 |
What the law requires
- At least €13.90 gross per hour since 1 January 2026, €14.60 from 1 January 2027 (§ 1 MiLoV5).
- Record the start, end and duration of each day's working time by the end of the seventh calendar day after the work, and keep it for at least two years (§ 17(1) MiLoG).
- This applies to passenger transport because the sector is listed in § 2a SchwarzArbG (the Act against undeclared work), and to mini-jobbers.
In the example the driver is €0.26 per hour short, or €45.76 over 176 hours. Whether waiting time in the app counts as working time is a question for your tax adviser or an employment lawyer.
Find & keep drivers
Drivers wanted: how do fleets find and keep good drivers?
A new driver may only start once the P-Schein, the registration and the ID notice are done. Treat them as a fixed checklist and you won't lose applicants to waiting time. Give drivers shifts in the strong hours and you'll lose fewer of them to the next fleet.
What a new driver needs: the P-Schein under § 48 FeV
- Minimum age 21
- Class B licence held for at least two years (or held within the last five years)
- Certificate of good conduct and a current extract from the driver fitness register
- Proof of mental and physical fitness and of eyesight
- For taxis and Mietwagen: proof of Fachkunde (required knowledge)
- Issued for at most five years, renewable on application
Source: § 48(1), (4) and (5) FeV, Driving Licence Regulation
Before the first shift
- Sofortmeldung (immediate registration) with the pension insurance data office, no later than the start of work (§ 28a(4) SGB IV).
- A written, provable notice that the driver must carry an ID card or passport and show it to customs on request. Keep the notice (§ 2a SchwarzArbG).
- The passenger transport licence must be carried alongside the driving licence on every trip (§ 48(3) FeV).
- Store the P-Schein expiry date so the renewal isn't missed.
Applications in one place
The Recruiting module collects applicants, documents and status. Nobody digs through WhatsApp for a photo of the P-Schein.
Good shifts keep drivers
Drivers with many red hours earn less under revenue-based pay and leave sooner. The heatmap shows who you can give better hours.
Pay statements everyone understands
Hours and revenue per driver are the same numbers for the office and for the driver. Fewer arguments at month end.

FAQ
Questions about driver earnings, utilisation and hiring
How much does an Uber driver make per hour in Germany?
There is no fixed figure, and no official averages are published. Employed drivers are entitled to at least €13.90 gross per hour, rising to €14.60 on 1 January 2027 (§ 1 MiLoV5, the minimum wage regulation). For the fleet, what also matters is how much revenue each online hour brings in, which you calculate per driver from your own Uber and Bolt data.
What are Uber driver earnings after deductions?
An employed driver's net pay depends on gross pay, tax class and social contributions, and comes from your payroll. For you as the operator the more useful net question is: what is left of an online hour's revenue after platform commission, wages and vehicle costs? Only that calculation shows whether a driver or shift pays for itself.
Do drivers earn differently on Bolt than on Uber?
There is no general answer, because commission, demand and fares vary by city and over time. The only reliable comparison is inside your own fleet: revenue per online hour split by Uber and Bolt, per driver and time of day. That shows which platform your shifts earn more on.
Does the minimum wage apply to drivers in a mini-job or side job?
Yes. Every employee is entitled to the minimum wage (§ 1 MiLoG, the Minimum Wage Act), including mini-jobs and side jobs. In passenger transport you must also record the start, end and duration of each day's working time by the end of the seventh calendar day after the work, and keep the records for two years (§ 17(1) MiLoG).
What does a new driver need to drive a Mietwagen for Uber?
They need the passenger transport licence known as the P-Schein (§ 48 FeV). Requirements include a minimum age of 21, a class B licence held for at least two years, a certificate of good conduct plus a current extract from the driver fitness register, proof of medical fitness and eyesight and, for taxis and Mietwagen, proof of Fachkunde (the required professional knowledge). The licence is issued for at most five years.
How can a fleet find Uber drivers faster?
Use a fixed process: collect applications in one place, check the P-Schein and driving licence early, and file the immediate registration with the pension insurance data office no later than the first working day (§ 28a(4) SGB IV). Good drivers are easier to keep when their shifts fall into busy hours and their pay statement is easy to follow. The Recruiting module keeps applications and documents together.
What does it cost and how quickly does it run?
Pricing starts at $5.99 per driver per month. Setup takes about 48 hours: upload drivers and cars, connect Uber Fleet and Bolt Fleet, and revenue per online hour and utilisation appear for every driver. You can try it free for 2 days, no credit card required.
